Titanic Postcards
After the sinking of the Titanic the ship was memorialised with postcards, some of which were sold to help the survivors, but most for commercial benefit. The people who produced these postcards weren't too big on the research, though, and many depicted ships other than the Titanic.
Have a close look at the photos of the postcards on this page and see if you can pick the ship being depicted. Is it the Titanic, or her sister the R.M.S Olympic? Are you even looking at a postcard of the rival Cunard Line's Mauretania or Lusitania instead? The possibilites are endless, yet all were still sold to hungry consumers as being the Titanic. It's no surprise, really, that they got away with it. How many had actually seen the Titanic? Who would know otherwise?
